We are still in India meeting Social Entrepreneurs. We are at the beginning of this Asian tour and this time we met guys from ekgaon technologies, a really cool Social Enterprise which designs and develops technologies and information systems to meet the needs of developing communities. In a few word, they use information and communication technologies to improve rural lives. For example they empower villagers by giving them agricultural information for them to know when to plant, water and harvest their crops. However these magicians are also doing a lot of other great stuff with technology. Ekgaon Social Enterprise approach is shared by all its team and impulse by the Social Entrepreneur Mr. Vijay Pratap Singh Aditya. Ekgaon : Mobile Authentication for Indo-Nepal Remittance |
||
|
Country of implementation: Nepal and India. Ekgaon Technologies and Nirdhan Utthan Bank are building a mobile remittance authentication system to facilitate small-scale remittance transfers for workers in South-South migration corridors. Remittances are transferred and saved in investment vehicles in receiving countries and smoothen otherwise unpredictable income streams. Using mobile technology remittance, service providers can access new customers in areas where operating margins are small and ensure more security than physical cash transfers. Mobile-based remittance services may change the landscape of remittance provision and enable a new segment of wage earners to access formal financial services. |
